Alright! It’s the 10th Episode of Battle Spirits Shounen Toppa Bashin!
I felt like I should do something special for this particular milestone, getting to Episode 10 is definitely good!
So, lost to myself, I decided I’d review what I could derive as Bashin and J’s decks thus far.

From what we’ve seen, This is how Bashin’s deck looks, despite not actually having used Buster Phalanx, he did specifically namedrop it as a card he needed to wait for, implying it was in his deck.
Any card he hasn’t been shown using multiple copies of I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt as using 2, and despite not playing The Ruby Sun, we know Bashin has it in his deck.
All in all the Deck is relatively simple in what it does, it attacks fast and it attacks big. But doesn’t seem to have a lot of contingencies besides his scarce Flame Tempest (hence why it’s at 1), to protect himself if the opponent gets an advantage.
Not to mention Bashin has quite a few cards in his deck that simply are unable to block, which is extremely disadvantageous to him if he falls behind.

And now for what I deem to be an appropriate J Deck, J actually has less cards shown to be in his deck than Bashin, we know he only has one Odin, but the rest of the deck seems very block oriented, J has been known to use Invisible Cloak to close out games when his opponent has only 1 life.
Despite White being the colour of defense, J actually has quite an aggressive deck here, with Invisible Cloak and Dream Ribbon being able to clear out cards from the board he can get a win very quickly.
Weird that.
Oh well, with that over and done with (Sorry wasn’t as Special as I thought it’d be)
Let’s watch Episode 10!

Continuing on from last episode, we now have the title of “Big Maze is Big Trouble!”
Considering the last title having Okyou in it despite having nothing to do with Okyou whatsoever, this is a significantly better title than the last one. Even if it is a bit simple.
Also it seems like we’re back with the BIG RESOLUTION BABY

I love how the guy in 3rd place isn’t even Striker, it’s just one of the random rich dudes.
He’s got a face looking like “I just… attacked… and it worked…”

I mean it doesn’t matter who gives the trophy to the winner so long as the winner gets a trophy.
How has no one clicked that Suiren is wearing a disguise and could be My Sunshine?

The Crowd isn’t happy that their favourite 13-year old idol in a skimpy pink dress isn’t delivering a trophy in which she has no relation to.
Man the Battle Spirits community in this show sucks pretty bad.

You weren’t even good enough to be a reporter on Batosupi TV, get me a new one that isn’t so bloody irritating.

Bashin says they should wait for My Sunshine, but Suiren interjects appropriately asking whether he really thinks My Sunshine is actually here.
Bashin has some god damn faith in an Idol he’s officially never met. Though I’m wondering if Suiren was hoping to go with the assumption that My Sunshine had already left.
I’m curious if Suiren is merely asking to make sure it’s reasonable to change back into her My Sunshine persona.

Yup, Suiren just decides to bugger off.

Suiren officially relinquishes her champion title under the pretence that she has yet to defeat J.
It’s likely she intends to do this so that My Sunshine doesn’t show up pointlessly, and can award the trophy to Bashin.

Meanwhile, Pink and Okyou are still fighting over who gets to munch on Aibou’s remains.

Suiren’s taking her Chameleon and going home.
Though I’m concerned as to why she would need Pink to switch to her My Sunshine persona? Unless she just needs to hide him so that he isn’t associated with her while she’s in that Persona (It would give her away after all)

…This show is some god damn weird shit but I’m happy for Aibou that he won’t have to live in fear of being eaten by the Cat.
But if Okyou wasn’t trying to eat Aibou then why did Okyou feel the need to chase him constantly?

…Okyou caught him to unload some baggage?
I have to hear this, I’m intrigued as to what Okyou wants Aibou for?
I hope it’s not a confession, that would be extremely weird… But I wouldn’t be surprised considering Okyou called Aibou “Her belonging”

Dammit, I wanted to know what Okyou wanted to tell Aibou about!
But no we have to watch My Sunshine exist.

My Sunshine, stop congratulating yourself.
It’s really not cool to brag infront of the audience.

Bashin suddenly gains a morality from the 6th dimension of “Nowhere” and can’t bring himself to take a Trophy he hasn’t exactly earned.
Just take the damn trophy so you can give it to Suiren when you next see her, that would get you in her good books Bashin.

Bashin runs off stage, apologising to My Sunshine for his apparent rudeness.
Also jesus christ Suiren’s acting is impeccable, she genuinely looks confused as to why Bashin is leaving without collecting the trophy despite the fact that she knows exactly why.

I wonder if My Sunshine can vouch for possession of the Trophy so Suiren can keep the trophy she earned fair and square.

Striker praises Bashin for his sudden surge in morality
Don’t get your hopes up Striker, it will probably disappear as soon as Meganeko gets her next on-screen appearance, because the way Bashin treats her is far from morally correct.

Ah so Okyou wanted to tell Aibou about the J and his mother situation. Well I’m happy that Okyou sees Aibou as a shoulder to lean on than a dish to clean off.
I don’t know why, friendships between animals of different species are always the most wholesome to me, even their biological differences don’t hold them back from being friends.

Aibou you actually suck.
I suddenly wish Okyou had eaten you.

This time this isn’t even unreasonable.
Aibou’s getting what’s coming to him. I no longer fear for the poor thing’s life if he’s going to be an ass to a natural predator of his.
One who even resisted it’s own natural instincts to confide with you.
Stupid mouse.

Bashin’s morality has apparently returned from whence it came, as he laments that he may have had a harder time refusing if the trophy was infact, My Sunshine’s Autograph.
“You’re a Chivalrous Man Bashin”
That Statement from Striker aged well.

Aibou making the best use of his abilities as an extremely selfish mouse drags Bashin into another room with an automatic door that apparently works for Bashin but not for Okyou.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS.
BUT I ASSUME IT IS IMPORTANT.

Have Nazo-Otonas wronged you in some way J?
Because seriously, this is a bit of an extreme way to try and smoke out a Nazo-Otona.
Besides, under the assumption that no Nazo-Otona appeared during the Labyrinth, it would be more reasonable to assume that the Nazo-Otona wasn’t any of the people trapped in the Labyrinth…
Like uh, I dunno, that Curator.

Yes, very.
Forcing people to play a game that some have probably never played or even have a deck for is very interesting.

J seems to be catching on that perhaps the Nazo-Otona isn’t any of the guests.

The Curator states that he’s not good enough to have another game with J, but last I checked it was the Curator that challenged him during the party.
So to suddenly refuse a challenge like that is mighty suspicious.

That’s just flat out insulting to the Curator to basically tell him you don’t trust him.

This was brought up earlier, J is aware that the Curator was using a deck he wasn’t comfortable with, though the Curator didn’t answer why that was the case.

Conveniently, the phone rings, interrupting this line of questioning.
The Curator looks more and more suspicious as time goes on.

It was J’s mother, come to tell J that he was being “Selfish”
Uh, slightly, but apparently there’s some serious issue when it comes to Nazo-Otonas that his mother either doesn’t want to hear or that he hasn’t told her about.

Lots of things happening in this shot, J’s mother berates J on “troubling his guests” (even though quite a few of them looked like they were having quite a bit of fun with it, even though they weren’t quite good at the game)
The Curator tries to leave but J halts him, I assume J doesn’t really care for privacy in this situation if it would cause the Curator to leave his sight.

This is a poor argument.
“Dad said it was okay” either means Dad is incompetent, or allowed something that the Mother wasn’t consulted on. Or you’re a liar trying to shift the blame.
Either way, it doesn’t change the fact that your Mother hasn’t heard about it, and quite frankly disapproves.
It also means that your Dad needs a damn long talk with how your parents are going to sort out your upbringing because clearly they disagree, but that can be dealt with then, and this is now.

She’s your mother.
She can call you whatever the fuck she wants, and you’re in no position to argue about whether or not she calls you by a cute honorific or not.

Someone clearly isn’t seeing this from the Mother’s point of view.
I’d imagine from her perspective her 12 year old son has gone rogue and is using their family’s assets to basically imprison a number of wealthy guests just because J wants to find a very specific person he doesn’t know the identity of or even can be sure is even there to begin with.
Yeah, no, I’m with the mother on this one, J is cray cray.

And how long will that be?
And what if the Nazo-Otona doesn’t exist? You’re asking for a significant amount of trust here J.

…From the LOOKS of things dear J your Mother can’t quite do a thing while you’re in control of the operations here.
Though as for your mother trying to blame “Battle Spirits” as the inherent problem in your relationship with her, ehhhhh.
That’s a stretch, kids need the ability to be kids. But to go this far for the game requires disciplinary action against the extent at which he’s going, not the game itself.
And trying to assert the game is the problem is probably going to have J act more defiantly rather than less.

If she hated you she wouldn’t bloody call you “J-chan” you muppet.
And you know exactly why she’s miffed, it’s because you’re doing this all for the sake of a children’s card game.
This is why I never want kids.

News flash douchebag!
That is not the face of a mother who hates her son.

And J just cuts her off.
Hooooo boy…
The most aggressive thing his mother has said in this 2 episode segment was that Battle Spirits was a “Weird thing” and that she was tired of J acting irrationally for the sake of the game.
While I do understand that she might be asking J to grow up a little too fast, J is being supremely unreasonable about it.

Bashin knows what I mean…
….
…What do you mean Bashin knows what I mean?

This is the guy who’s going to burn your brain cells.
Sadly they don’t do refunds at the hospital.

Cuz some piece of shit rich boy needs to get a royal spanking that’s why.

I am… guilty of saying similar things J has to my own Mother.
However as much as I would want to hate her for certain things, she’s my Mother, and I don’t get to choose who that is.
Besides, she’s right more often than she isn’t… Mothers generally are.

From the looks of the conversation you JUST had with her J, neither do you apparently.

Ah yes, a rage-induced need to beat someone in Battle Spirits.
The best reason to want to beat someone, I’m getting Fired up!
I’m on Bashin’s side for this one, kick this mother-hating rich boy to the curb.

Snort
So J doesn’t want the Curator to basically go anywhere, so he’s making him stay in the room while he goes to tend to Bashin’s rage.

And we jump to turn 16 of the “I’m going to beat you up!” battle.

J deploys The Diamond Moon at Level 2.
Also I see they’re still working on what the right course of action involving the Core is, now they’re significantly smaller than the last ones they used.

J ends his turn and we finally get a view of the field, it seems like J has a field of Berserker-Gun and 2 Icemaidens, all at Level 1.

Meanwhile Bashin has a Level 2 Rokceratops, an Eyeburn, and a Metalburn.
Seemingly even thus far, except J now has the Diamond Moon, meaning careless attacks will be fatal to his Red Spirits.

Bashin cautiously decides not to swing, and with good reason.
But Caution is what caused him to lose against Suiren.

Hate cards are never fun, because the general answer to the problem of a Hate card tends to be “Use a different deck”
Which doesn’t help in the long haul of trying to win the current game you’re in.
Hate cards also aren’t the best to be running, because they are situational by function.

Something tells me that won’t be happening at all today.

Because of COURSE J is about to play his supremely inconvenient X-Rare.

I’m going to immediately assume that due to this situation, Bashin is going to lose.
And then his track record against J will be 3 losses to 0 wins.

J levels up Odin to Level 3 using Berserker-Gun’s Core.
Now anytime he battles any of Bashin’s Spirits, he’ll be at 10,000 BP, and even if Odin loses, Diamond Moon will kick in and take out the offending Spirit.
Bashin is Screwed with a Capital S.

Unfortunately, the Red card that would have gotten the Curator out of this pickle with the Level 2 Odin won’t work with Odin at Level 3, I’m unsure if there’s any cards that can break this combo right now.
Courtesy of Vassal, I’ve examined what Red cards are available, there aren’t any that can take out Odin without running into Diamond Moon’s effects.
Bashin’s going to need to crash a card into Odin, and then destroy the Diamond Moon after the fact.

Increase those cards Bashin! You’re gonna need all the ones you can get!

This marks the 3rd time Bashin has drawn Siegfried off of Double Draw.

For those who aren’t paying attention, He’s depleted Rokceratops, and dropped Metalburn down to Level 1 for his next move.

Bashin counters, for the first time, with his OWN GOD DAMN NEXUS!
I know we’ve gone over this card before but it was in passing mention, so since he’s finally played it, let’s re-review.

All of J’s White cards require 1 extra cost to use.
And at Level 2, if J tries to either remove core OR add core to his White Spirits without using effects to do so, those Spirits get exhausted.
We’ve not only got a White X-Rare battling a Red X-Rare, but we’ve also got 2 Nexus Hate cards that hate on each other’s colour.
Unfortunately Bashin has only deployed this at Level 1 so far. So only the 1st effect is in play.

Bashin then depletes Goradon in order to Level Siegfried up to Level 3.
Bashin intends to Crash Siegfried into Odin…
It’s a shame that Odin gains +1000 BP for every Nexus out, that includes Bashin’s, putting Odin at 10,000 BP.
However, thanks to the Diamond Moon’s effect, if Odin Battles a Red Spirit, he’ll gain a further +1000 BP, so in reality, Odin is at 11,000 BP.

Of course, J chooses to block using Odin.

Well, that will close the gap for Bashim, using Offensive Aura will push Siegfried to 12,000 BP, which is JUST above Odin.

Only 2 core?…
I’m sorry J… That won’t be enough.

J attempts to play Defensive Aura, but the Card seems to reject the illegal move that J has just made and decides to bounce itself off the field.

Well, Bashin, take it away.

Sorry J my friend, but you’ll need 1 more core if you want to use Defensive Aura.
And unfortunately using Odin’s core will drop him by 3000 BP before adding 3000 BP. Keeping him at 11,000 BP.

When you’re too busy hiding behind a hate card to get your wins against a specific colour, it’s very easy to just assume nothing of that hate card’s target can hurt you.
You didn’t JUST overlook the red nexus, you over-estimated your own.

And the “ImpregnableFortress” has been penetrated.

Unfortunately, just taking out Odin was half the battle, The Diamond Moon will still take out Siegfried even if it wins.

Bye Siegfried.
You’ve done your Job good sir.

And Fuckup Tally: 11.
Bashin already entered the Showdown step with Siegfried, And Siegfried has already been destroyed…
There is no Flash timing with which to use Buster Spear in.
And it was going so well too.

Well I suppose it didn’t matter, J’s conceding the match to Bashin before he’s actually finished it.
Bro, neither of you have any cards left on your field except for Bashin with a Red Nexus, you can still come back from this J.

Bashin doesn’t have anything until he’s taken the last core on your life counter.
Bashin didn’t have any blockers remaining, it’s your turn J.
WHY ARE YOU GIVING UP YOU GOD DAMN WUSS!?
AND DON’T EVEN TRY TO TELL ME IT’S CUZ YOU MADE A MISPLAY!
Giving up because you made a misplay is one of the stupidest reasons you want to give up, I have an Anecdote concerning a friend who I believe wanted to restart a game after messing up a combo, not once but repeatedly.
That’s not an adequate reason to give up, it’s just irritating.

Meanwhile Bashin says “Fuck that shoddy reasoning” and Tells J he was just being a wuss because he was losing.
Too scared to face actual defeat, he gave up instead.

Oooof… Gonna need a Silent Wall for that one.

I’m going to assume Bashin is referring to the fact that J knows what the problem with giving up when he’s in a losing position is.
It’s extremely disrespectful to simply assert that because your opponent got “a” advantage that you are unable to come back from it. And then give up while the game still has a turn left to be played.
Especially to Bashin who has suffered not one but TWO defeats at J’s hands.

That’s not good.
I assume that means the Curator is able to leave.

After some deliberation of where the hell the Curator went, J comes to the conclusion that the Curator’s need to escape makes him the Nazo-Otona.

J has apparently forgotten what the point of their fight was about and wants to chase after the Nazo-Otona.

Bashin in an interesting twist of fate, decides J isn’t gonna be let off that easy and decides to go after the Curator himself.

Due to the constant moving of Bashin, the footage quality seems to have taken a dip apparently.
Anyway, Bashin is apparently so fed up with J that he cared more about putting him in his place than actually getting his first victory against him, and doesn’t recognise J’s giving up as an actual victory.
Man Bashin just won’t let anyone take an L unless he’s snatched their last life apparently.
Admirable personality trait.

If you can catch him of course.

Keyword being “Became”
You just got your ass beat by a kid who couldn’t even get passed the preliminaries, and was blinded by sheer rage at the way you mistreated your mother.
Right now, Bashin’s number 1, even if it wasn’t a “Real win” by his standards.
Though this seems like a bit of a two-way problem, his Mother won’t appreciate his skill in Battle Spirits, so J is protesting as a result.
I still think his method is wack though.

This woman is so backwards I swear.
Is she worried about him being alone? Or is she worried about him being successful? Which is it?
What problem is being caused by J playing Battle Spirits? Like I said, I understand the reason why she should be irritated with J for this charade he’s pulled, but I don’t understand what exactly she’s blaming the game for.

Couldn’t possibly be romantic, noooo…

Well maybe if you paid attention to your son a little more, perhaps you’d have figured out what J likes and dislikes a lot better.
Might have made what you want out of that kid a little more clearer as well, because right now I have 0 clue what you aim to do with J.

J bursts into the room as if he has any right to speak to his mother after what he did.

It’s almost like… being an asshole… hurts people’s feelings.
I’m glad you’ve figured this out at the age of 12 J.
Most people figure this out significantly earlier than that.

That is a significantly different problem.
And J barely gets the time to play Battle Spirits with anyone, he’s too busy being a rich kid.
Imagine trying to have a hobby and not having the time for any of it because you’re too rich, It would certainly be the only thing you’d use that precious free time on, obviously.

Yeah I’m a little confused myself here…
Is J trying to please his Mother by quitting the game? Or is he trying to get his mother to understand his love of the game by handing it over?
Either is a good move, if his Mother sees how miserable he is without it, then she’d be more inclined to think it does J more good than bad.
If his Mother attempts to try and understand what he likes so much about it, then they will connect a little more.
But on the other hand, J might just be trying to run away and using his Mother’s happiness as an incentive to stop playing cuz he’s a sore loser.
I can’t get a read on what the purpose of this action is. They weren’t very clear with what J’s intent was here.

And J buggers off on that note.

“A Card Battler’s Deck is like his own life”
Those words will echo again about 40 episodes from now.
I feel bad that I can’t identify with those worlds because I can’t stop building new decks for the life of me.

It seems we know why J decided to get permission from his father, and not his mother.

And you exhibit neither of those flaws Kyouka.
And one of them you should be exhibiting, someone get this woman a Battle Spirits deck.

Meganeko and Card Sensei are checking out the art gallery, Meganeko is completely enamored with the Artwork.
YOU NEED TO BE MORE ENAMORED WITH THE CARD ARTWORK ON BATTLE SPIRITS CARDS MEGANEKO!

…Is that a painting of J’s mother giving birth to him?
Cuz that’s certainly what it looks like.

Striker spots Okyou STILL clawing at the door she was locked behind.
Why would anyone leave a poor cat like that, Okyou deserves some pets.

Okyou meows in response, I see she hasn’t got the memo that Striker is a Chosen Card Battler.

Striker has done more to unite the chosen card battlers than Bashin has ever done to further this plot whatsoever.

Okyou seems more pleased than disappointed about this, rather than Aibou’s immediate “WHAT?! NOOOOOOOOOOOO”
Then again, Okyou can apparently tell when a Card Battler has been chosen, so Striker having “Awakened” is probably just a matter of time for Okyou.

You lost to Suiren in the first round of this Labyrinth Tournament.
Like, immediately.
AND you’ve lost every fight since beating Bashin that one time.
You’ve nothing to vouch for your competence other than “I beat Bashin once…”

See this is why I like Okyou, she’s an honest little kitten.
And knows when she’s done something stupid and needs to make up for it.
Now that she can talk to Striker, she can apologise to him herself.

It’s a bit hard to hate Okyou for assisting in busting up his leg when firstly, it was mostly Striker’s fault, and secondly, it’s the reason he even got into Battle Spirits.

This is a bit of a random question to ask all of a sudden Striker.

J pops up out of freaking nowhere, weren’t you told to stick back in the room Bashin told you to stay in?
You haven’t exactly made up with your mother yet, just gave up your deck.

Okyou missed her owner, that’s quite adorable actually.
It’s moments like this that make me want a pet, shame my housing arrangements don’t let me keep one.

This is just a day of apologising to Striker for being an enabler for busting the poor man’s leg isn’t it?
Do you reckon Striker get’s tired of being apologised to by J? I’m pretty sure J’s done it like, a few times now.

The Nazo-Otona sees the goal but get’s caught by Bashin.
Close, but no Cigar.

Bashin apparently overheard J when J mentioned the Curator wasn’t using his actual deck.
So Bashin is now demanding the Curator use his true deck!

I see that Nazo-Otonas aren’t under any obligation to reveal themselves once they’ve been found out to be Nazo-Otonas.
But then what’s the gain from being a Nazo-Otona if you don’t wish to do any of the things that would be needed of a Nazo-Otona?
They disguise themselves until found to be Nazo-Otonas.
And then are apparently obligated to give the people that defeat them X-Rares, and deliver High Ranker passes to those who have defeated a Nazo-Otona.
If that wasn’t their purpose then what is it? What incentive do they have to do any of those things while also wishing to stay in the shadows and keep their identities hidden?

Oh, well I guess this guy’s more than happy to fight a Chosen Card Battler.
That’s another curious thing, the Nazo-Otonas seem more than willing to show themselves to those revealed to be one of the Chosen.

So far only J’s White Cornerstone has shown the ability to react when the gate itself has been opened, no one else’s Cornerstones have been shown to do that.
Not to mention J can also read the number of reactions he gets to see how many Cornerstones are involved in a battle, he was able to tell that Bashin and Suiren were fighting on the ROOFTOP.

We’re at Turn 15, and it’s currently Bashin’s turn.

Bashin seems to have 2 Eyeburns and a Metalburn.

While the Nazo-Otona has Skeleton-Jaw, 2 Goradons and-…

….A DragonicFortress Giga at Level 2.
SO HE DID HAVE A WAY TO BEAT J’S ODIN!

When the DragonicFortress Giga is summoned you’re allowed to destroy a Spirit with 6000 BP or less, when the Curator was battling J, Odin was only at Level 2, and with only 1 Nexus out, Odin had only 6000 BP, The Diamond Moon’s BP gain effect only applies during Battle, so if the Curator had played this, he could have destroyed Odin.
The other effect is at Level 2, where if Giga wins a Battle and destroys a Spirit, you can send his cores to another Spirit to any other card on the board, meaning you can Level up your other spirits after Giga has been rendered unable to attack or block anymore.

The Curator is acting confident but you can see him sweating.

Bashin summons the DragonEmperor Siegfried at Level 3.
Even at Level 3, it will still tie with The DragonicFortress Giga.

Bashin wants to attack but stops himself and passes.
Even if he attacked with all his Spirits at this point, he wouldn’t be able to take the last life.

The Curator notices Bashin wants to protect his life rather than attack, this might signal to the Curator that Bashin doesn’t have any counters.
This means if he can play 1 more spirit, he can win.

The Curator plays the card that would have saved Bashin’s hide in several matches if he just used it more often.

This leaves Bashin with only The DragonEmperor Siegfried, while the Curator still has Skeleton-Jaw and The DragonicFortress Giga.

…I can see where this is going
Siegfried is conveniently at Level 3 ay?

The DragonicFortress Giga attacks, aiming for Bashin’s last life.
The Curator intends for Bashin to block this one, leaving him with no Spirits, and then finishing him off with Skeleton-Jaw.
Unfortunately for the Curator, that isn’t going to work.

The DragonEmperor Siegfried is wiped out along with Giga.
And wiping out Siegfried is exactly why Bashin will win.

You seem pretty confident Curator.
But as a Nazo-Otona, you should be familiar with Red X-Rares captain.
Familiar enough to know why you can’t do that.

I love the visualisation of Bashin losing his last life.
Really sets in the helpless tone of the situation he would be in.

Ooo, that’s eerie, but I absolutely love the way they’ve drawn Bashin here.

Bashin’s last life is restored!
Well, it wasn’t exactly his last life, but we’ll get to that in a second.

Nope, the life you took wasn’t even his last.

For those who didn’t follow the Siegfried review when I examined it’s abilities, At Level 3, Siegfried grants the user a Life from the void when it’s destroyed.
Just like the users take life to summon Siegfried, Siegfried will give a life back when it’s destroyed.

It’s a new card! Call of lost!
When used during the Flash Timing, you can give +2000 BP to a Spirit, but when used during the Main step…

And you can guess exactly which Spirit Bashin is going to bring back.

This shot of him actually looks quite cool in the context of the episode.
I’m quite happy with it.

Bashin attacks with Siegfried.
The Curator has no blockers, so his only option right now is to take his last life.

And through 1 simple mistake of the Curator attacking with Giga first, Bashin wins.
For real, if the Curator swung with Skeleton-Jaw first, Bashin wouldn’t have been able to recover a life.

Just barely though.
I wonder what the Curator was at the party for though? As well as why he wanted to avoid being caught out by one of the cornerstone holders so badly.

Striker and J arrive just in time for Bashin to tell them that he’s already beaten the Nazo-Otona.

Well, J took an abnormally long amount of time to come to that conclusion, bear in mind Bashin.
Even though it was getting painfully obvious given his insistence at wanting to leave.

It seems in Bashin’s excitement, he turned his back for a little too long and let the Curator get away.

Nevermind, they didn’t get far…
And oh hey! It’s the Black suited Nazo-Otona from earlier!
For the record, I’ll refer to the one in the Black Suit as the “Dark Nazo-Otona” and the Curator as well, the Curator.

The Dark Nazo-Otona commends Bashin on his ability to defeat the Curator, even though it was mostly luck that the Curator was dumb enough to swing with Giga first.

The Dark Nazo-Otona seems to have some sort of admiration for Bashin’s ability, but because Bashin didn’t defeat the Dark Nazo-Otona again, he can’t be the one to give Bashin another X-Rare.

WHO
THE FUCK
IS UCHUUCHOUTEN!?

THAT’S NOT AN ANSWER, SHOW!
YOU CAN’T JUST KEEP THIS MYSTERY GOING BY SAYING THEY CAN FIND OUT BY GATHERING X-RARES!
YOU HAVEN’T EVEN ESTABLISHED WHY X-RARES AND UCHUUCHOUTEN ARE LINKED, OR WHAT THE HELL THE NAZO-OTONAS ARE MEANT TO BE DOING FOR HIM.

J’s right, both he and Bashin have an X-Rare, hell Suiren has an X-Rare at this point.

Then why did you tell them to keep collecting X-Rares if you were just immediately going to tell him that the X-Rares wasn’t all there is?

If they’re purusuing a battle stronger than X-Rares then why the hell are they hunting X-Rares if they aren’t strong enough?
Come on anime you can’t just state something then immediately go back on it not a second later!

So J tries to chase after the Nazo-Otonas to stop them getting a way but the Dark Nazo-Otona flings a High Ranker pass as a Shuriken at his feet like some sort of fucking ninja and disappears.
Telling J that the High Ranker pass at his feet belongs to him.
I’m sorry, Bashin has defeated 4 Nazo-Otonas ON SCREEN and J has defeated a total of 0, we can assume J has defeated at least 1 Nazo-Otona because he has Odin, but Bashin is far more worthy of the High Ranker Pass than he is at this moment in time.
Bashin STILL hasn’t got a High Ranker pass.

I’m sorry Okyou but the Curator was trying his damndest to get away.
Bashin took him all the way to god damn ISEKAI and had a full-blown Card Battle with him, it’s not his fault your stupid freaking maze caused you more problems than it solved you stupid Cat.
Okyou acting like it’s Bashin’s fault they got away when Bashin’s the reason they even stuck around that long.

Meanwhile Bashin raises the same concerns J’s mother had, sealing off an entire room of guests just to weed out a single person who he didn’t quite know the identity of, just to interrogate them.
Though I suppose now we know he wanted to learn about King Uchuuchouten, whoever that might be.

…Liable… How?
You’re a god damn CAT.

And that’s not even considering the fact that J still detained an entire building’s worth of people and inconvenienced all of them for a personal goal.

YOU WERE JUST IRRITATED WITH HIM A SECOND AGO! WHY ARE YOU BUCKLING NOW BECAUSE OF OKYOU!?

I’m pretty sure if they could, they would, they lack High ranker passes unlike you.

So J has handed them what appears to be Championship passes, they look significantly different to the normal High Ranker passes, so I assume they aren’t the same thing.
I suppose the Championship Finals Tournament is different to the Battle Spirits Championship.

And a whole episode later do we discover that this was an invite only party.
Come the hell on J, you’d have gotten nowhere without them, this isn’t the bloody time.

Not wanting to answer the question of why they snuck into a party they weren’t invited to, the pair of them bolt.
At least that explains why J was so sure there was a Nazo-Otona among the guests, he likely had a suspicion that a contact of his was a Nazo-Otona, but wasn’t sure which, so he invited all of them to a party and forced them all to battle.
Good plan, if you don’t mind burning a lot of bridges as a result.

It seems Toaru Elementary is returning home from their long field trip.
Good, I want more plot to happen, none of this 2 episodes just to namedrop Uchuuchouten bullshit.
I still don’t know who that is by the way! Just letting you all know!

After some inconsequential Bus banter, J embarrassed, goes to confront his mother.

HAH
FUNNY HOW LIFE WORKS HUH!?
Now J’s MOTHER is playing Battle Spirits despite giving it so much shit earlier!

This officially means that Kyouka knows how to play Battle Spirits.
And thus makes Kyouka a card battler, and THUS makes her currently best girl over Meganeko.

It seems J wants his Deck back, given that he’s going to need it for the series of tournaments he’ll be participating in.
Makes sense as to why he’s embarrassed then, he’s asking something back that he willingly relinquished less than a few minutes prior.

You mean J was hosting this ENTIRE event despite being SICK!?
Whoa man slow the hell down, this guy doesn’t need an X-Rare he needs a BED!

Requires a pretty damn high willpower to be able to act normal when sick.
Especially when doing exactly that might actually do more damage than not, you need rest if you’re ill.

I suppose NOW you do, having played it for yourself to see where he’s coming from.
This woman is mothering right.

Told you card games are a good way to make an antisocial person social, you need an opponent to play Battle Spirits, so playing is basically a one-way ticket to free friends.

My Uncle was who got my into Fighting games, so playing them is always a peaceful pass time for me, even if it is a more frustrating one for others.

J falls asleep in his mother’s lap.
Not really much to comment on for this, it’s sweet.

Back in Toaru, Bashin was apparently thoughtful enough to bring back a present for his mother.
This is definitely going to end badly.

Ah, so Bashin apparently remembered what his mother likes and brought her back the thing she asked for.
I wish I had the thoughtfulness to bring back souvenirs for my mother.
But I can never remember what she likes.

If Bashin doesn’t get a regular hourly dosage of Battle Spirits he ends up in a coma that can only be fixed by grinding down cards in a blender and feeding it to him through a drip.

Oh, we got a different colour this time around for our “To be continued” slide.
Oh well, time for the episode review!
A lot of focus was put into J’s family for this one, but they weren’t very clear on why J’s mother was so irritated that J was investing so much time in Battle Spirits.
He wasn’t physically restricted, nor was he educationally, so it makes one wonder what damage Battle Spirits is doing to his life that his mother hated so much.
Bashin finally defeated J, and managed to kick off Siegfried’s 2nd effect this time, but this is the 3rd Nazo-Otona Bashin has beaten and they haven’t given him an X-Rare or a High Ranker.
The Nazo-Otonas aren’t very consistent with their rules it seems.
We now have an in-show confirmation that Nazo-Otonas have SOMETHING to do with Uchuuchouten, with 2 problems.
We know this from the intros that occur every god damn episode, and we STILL don’t know who the hell Uchuuchouten is supposed to be.
And yes I will keep repeating this until Uchuuchouten gets explained to us in show.
And I may even continue doing it long after he’s been explained if their explanation is inadequate.
Jesus, anyway, time for our Card of the day!

Once again, it’s the DragonEmperor Siegfried, with a specific focus on his Level 3 effect.
Not as good as the show seems to make it out to be, but it seems the show even lampshaded that the victory from that effect only came as a result of a coincidence, that being Curator’s order of attacks.
Since we’ve already had an in-depth look at this card’s use during the previous episodes, there’s little need to go over it again, with that I’ll see you guys in Episode 11!
