Small Rant – Broken Links and new PCs

I should probably talk about something, namely to do with this Blog

Also no it’s not ending, and it’s not one of these stupid situations where it technically is even though it sounds like it isn’t, This has nothing to do with the output of new posts

This actually has something to do with preservation of old posts, skimming the blog I found that a number of the image links were broken, Why?

Well the image links I was using pointed to the main Batosupi website’s card gallery, given that it was a frequently used set up for many decks being built, I figured that, unless the batosupi website shut down for some reason (it’s been going strong for 16 years), those images would be preserved.

Turns out, I am a naive nugget.

At some point the website’s card list page changed to match this, and you’ll notice when searching for cards that they’re of a significantly higher quality than the images I was pointing to.

This is because the entire card sets were re-uploaded, and the old image links were taken down. This caused the image links for those images to essentially point to a 404 page.

Since that’s not an image, the link was bust, this caused many of the card images to essentially vanish, wordpress likes to try and automatically format based on what it knows, so the card effects which were mostly pasted beneath formatted incredibly awkwardly, making it difficult to even read.

I have spent yesterday and most of today skimming through about 40 episodes worth of posts and repairing the links that were broken. The images I’ve been using recently point to the Bandai-TCG+ App, which not only have high quality cards in a consistent size but also is what the main website uses to post it’s official decklists now. I am hoping that given the recency of the change that they aren’t likely to do anything like that again, but I’m also not confident in my existing links.

There is an easy remedy for this, I upload the card images manually.

For episode stuff, I use Imgur, naturally, and as long as the posts get even a little bit of traffic, those links get accessed, meaning Imgur isn’t liable to take them down for any reason.

For cards only, I will probably start to keep them in the Media Library. I avoided this at the beginning because I was worried about space really, but atm I have no choice.

That being said, while I’ve fixed the broken links in previous episodes, they’re still links, meaning we can lose access to them, I’m not going to comb through old posts again unless I really feel like catching up on thoughts I already had. SO.

If you’re a frequent reader and you find yourself going back to older reviews, please let me know if you spot a broken link in future, so that I can correct it.

Finally, let’s talk about some other things

You’ll notice I used this cool recreation of the Extreme League decklist, and never re-used it, as well as another Decklist format that I used in Episode 40 of Gekiha Dan that I’d done before but slightly differently:

reason being is because a while ago, June of this year-abouts, I obtained a new PC.

Wanting to ensure I was going in as fresh as possible, certain backups were not taken, as a result I lost most of my Photoshop work that I unfortunately forgot to back up, including the PSDs for this decklist.

Is it possible to recreate? Yes, caveat, It requires a significant amount of effort. But that means that’s time lost I won’t get back. Some I can never 100% fully reconstruct (but can improve on)

I do not want to dive into something if I have to do it again though, so I’d very much like some feedback as to which of the Deck layouts you’ve seen that you’d prefer me to keep. And I will invest effort into using that one.

with that aside, I’ll see you in the next episode, hope you see this.

Post Edit Note:
In the time it’s taken me since writing this I was able to recreate (not 100% but close enough, with some improvements to efficacy) both Templates before my day was over, took me several hours but , so I feel incredibly stupid, even so, consistency can be important, so let me know what you’d like to see in terms of deck list design.
