Formal Announcement of Blog Discontinuation

Righto, it’s been a hot minute, I said I had hoped to return to this blog with good news, and well, I have SOME good news, just not for people who came for this blog.

First and foremost, I promised that I’d never discontinue the blog without a Formal Announcement, this is unfortunately that formal announcement. As of this Blog post, I will no longer be committing to making new posts about the series.

The issue is several-fold, first of course is the Online Safety Act, as mentioned in a previous post, it’s been a hot minute since, but nothing as been done to get rid of it. Worse, general MP sentiments in the UK seem to believe the Act isn’t doing enough, naturally, Government Politicians will always advocate for Governmental Overreach until it starts to hurt their bottom line.

Second, and potentially the primary reason, is that I’ve actually become a content creator on a different channel.

Something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while was rewriting Yu-Gi-Oh! to be more like Battle Spirits, ensuring that the games in the show match the game’s as portrayed, it’s complete with effects, board visuals, and voice acting! We’re currently underway with 5 completed duels, the 6th will be up in 3 days after this post.

With this being my current commitment, I will be unable to invest time in the Blog without severely curtailing the time I’d like to invest in my personal life as well.

There is a Discord Server for a lovely community if you’d like to talk to me personally or ask about things!

I’m really sorry I wasn’t able to commit to finishing this guys.

What happens now is that I will leave this blog up as an archive. I may at a time of my choosing add some posts detailing full-series coverage when moments allow me to, essentially giving my condensed thoughts over the series rather than the incredibly deep thoughts you guys are normally used to. But I can’t promise anything at this particular juncture.

Best I can hope for is to see some of you in the Discord Server!

In any case, I can only hope to see you all later.

Buh-bye!

  1. Awww, that makes me so sad honestly. There was so much about Battle Spirits Brave to talk about, and I’d been looking forward to it ever since I found out about this blog. As much as I understand how out of our hands this matter is, it still is unfortunate.

I’d decided to come here to check stuff out after seeing how the… I don’t know what to call it, “Re-Streaming”? of Battle Spirits Brave in the official JP bandai channel is close to finishing (I know subs are out there courtesy of Soaker, but watching it in good quality is never bad), and so I came across this post… Again, it’s unfortunate, but I’m still going to say thank you to you, sir, for commiting so much of your time and resources to this site just to appreciate a show that is close to being 20 years old at this point. It’s a commendable effort and a testament to how much you love this game and series. Since we won’t be getting there I’ll just say what’s on my chest in regards to Brave here: We were lucky to be able to watch it. While I don’t think it’s some unsurpassable masterpiece, I do think we all were blessed to be able to watch such an amazing show that was so daring for its time in what it tried to do with its themes and card games in general.

Not everytime is it that one gets to experience something that is so deep and so subtle at the same time… maybe I’m exaggerating but I really do hold up Brave and Gekiha in high esteem, such that I wish as many people as possible gave it a chance. If only Bandai had streamed the show when they tried releasing Saga, perhaps its outcome might’ve been different.

Alas, nothing is over yet, is it? There is a new Battle Spirits show soon to come out, and you’ve got more projects on hand to commit your free time and passion to. Speaking of which, Since I always thought of you as just “blackace” I didn’t realize that the “rewritting YGO” series was in fact your making! It’s so high quality I shouldn’t be surprised, but now I have all the more reason to follow it. So far it’s been amazing and it’s yet another amazing love letter of yours to card games. I wish you best of luck in your future projects and I’m sorry for ranting for so long in this comment.

    Godspeed, Battle Spirits Blog.

    1. It’s no problem, if there was ever a time for a long comment, this would be one of them.

I’ve got nothing to say in regards to luck, but I definitely do appreciate that story-telling using games as a narrative device exists in any form at all, let alone the forms we get to enjoy, like card games.

And indeed, nothing is over, things are simply changing. I’m looking forward to the new BS Anime.

Judging by the way you phrased that, it seems like you found me again before realizing who I was, funny how the world works in that regard. I just hope doing right by that series helps make up for failing to do right by this one.
