Alright, hit the ground running, let’s do this. Last episode we had Suzuri vs the Otherworld Jobber, Randel. As of the ending of last episode, it should be Dan’s first match in this new Tournament.

The word on everyone’s minds? Who on Earth (Otherworld?) is Dan’s first opponent?

Dan of course, doesn’t care who his opponent is, he’s aiming to try and summon Meteorwurm as soon as humanly possible.

Clackey takes this brief moment of reprieve to tease Magisa about Julian, since there’s a not-so-subtle subtext that Magisa and Julian were in a relationship before Julian gave up on defeating Otherworld King.

Poking people’s sore spots doesn’t tend to be a particularly good comedy strategy however.
Granted I felt that one was a pretty harmless tease, but if there’s one thing I know it’s that people who are very romantic by nature dislike being raked over the coals over past loves, even as a joke.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, this bloody character pops out of the woodwork and offers Zungurii a box of chocolates.
Zungurii asks if he’s being offered them and the guy just grunts.
Not a great interaction, also a little bit weird.

Zungurii takes one and seems to enjoy it, and Magisa is then offered one as well.

Magisa seems pretty concerned and to be honest, with good bloody reason.
This guy very clearly doesn’t know them and has offered them a box of chocolates with no words or anything, they have zero ideas what his intentions are or what those chocolates could be laced with.
Thankfully given this show’s target audience, the chocolates aren’t spiked, so you can rest easy.
The issue we’re going to get into with this… is culture.

Zungurii’s so enamored with the chocolate that he dunks the entire box.

We interrupt this very clearly tense situation with the Episode Title!
Which also gives a really upsetting spoiler as to Meteorwurm’s first opponent, Kaiseratlas.
Kaiseratlas was a powerful X-Rare from the previous show, Toppa Bashin, it appeared during the tail end of the series, I’ll review it again once it appears but its certainly one of the easier Tribute Spirits to toss out on account of it’s home colour.

after some very understandable initial panic about Zungurii, it turns out the reason he was keeling over is because he was incredibly enamoured with the Chocolate, and not because it was spiked, which was surprisingly, Clackey Ray’s initial reaction, glad there was some recognition for the slightly less immature audience.
No, as it turns out, Zungurii has never eaten chocolate before, which given where he lives, makes sense. So he’s enjoying it for the first time in literally ever.

Magisa concurs that the chocolate is excellent.
Good, we all on the same page that Chocolate is a good sweet? Alright, moving on.

This entire sequence is then interrupted by this particularly annoying monkey, who’s name is apparently Rocchi.

We cut to a different location before we get into the real meat of the problem here.

First things first, this big green chap is called “Gaana”

Ah boy, so this is basically quite similar to an actual real life phenomena.
In some East Asian countries, small children are taught not to pick up red envelopes left on the ground. As the families of dead, unmarried women tend to leave money or some memorabilia of said woman on the ground in red envelopes, if a male person picks it up, they’ll be chased down and pressured to engage in a “Ghost marriage” with the deceased lady in question (basically just, marrying a dead person).
This is a similar concept, of course there’s no dead people involved, but a gesture of courtship was offered to someone who accepted not knowing what it meant and now they’re being expected to go through with it as if it’s a matter of strict liability.
The obvious problem with Rocchi’s explanation is that we’re not in the fucking country where this courtship ritual takes place, there is no enforcing body that would ever recognize this dumbass custom.
Also side note, Chocolate in his country is called “Hocholate”, which is a very minor tweaking of the word.

Naturally, Magisa didn’t know about this and requests to refuse, fairly reasonable response.

Rocchi claims the preparations have already been set for a wedding tonight, and Gaana declares he can’t stop the process.

Magisa tries the obvious approach of “Well you can’t marry me if I’m not fucking there” and tries to ghost.
Unfortunately her Magic is weak and due to the Blue world making everything out of thick stone, she can’t create a pathway all the way through the floor.

Gaana, being a massive meaty hunk of a man, just lifts Magisa off the ground and prepares to leave before being stopped by Dan.

Gaana then realizes he recognizes Dan as his moniker, the “Clash King”

Which, if Gaana recognizes the name of a Battler, then that mean’s he too is a Battler, and given we’re operating on a 20 minute runtime…

That means Gaana is very much Dan’s first opponent in the tournament.
Also seems like Gaana’s Country is in the Green World… Are the worlds even big enough to have “countries” per se? I guess so.

And of course, to emphasise the difference in cultures, Gaana’s full name is “Kaka Omasu Hanaji Buu Gaana”, he has 5 names.
Which Dan comments on but hilariously, I have a similarly long name, I won’t state the full thing but while it’s only technically 4 names long, one of the names is a conjoined name, so it’s read as 5, much like this one.

Before the match starts we cut to Brustrom giving Suzuri another card.
Unfortunately for you, dear readers, this shot can’t fool my eyes, I know precisely what card that is just by looking at it.
And I also know it’s not a card we’ll see actually get used, so which means we get to talk about it… now.
Lv1-Lv2-Lv3 [When Summoned]
Destroy opposing Cost 0/1/2/3/4 Spirits, one of each.
Lv2-Lv3 Assault: 1 [When Attacks]
This Spirit can, once per turn, be refreshed by exhausting one of your Nexuses.
Lv3 [Your Attack Step]
All your Spirits with Assault gain +3000 BP.
It’s The RoaringSwordmaster Lowen, an SD02 Master Rare card, putting it in the same league as Siegwurm.
It’s also, interestingly, an Assault Support card. It’s a bit hefty in terms of minimum cost, requiring 4 core to summon, but it’s on Summon can more than make up for that, being able to wipe out up to 5 spirits who’s costs are under 4 as long as they’re of different costs.
aside from it’s Assault: 1 at Lv2, it can also provide a boost in BP to other Assault Spirits at Lv3, though usually if you’re running Assault, it’s the number of attacks that are a problem, not the BP value…

Brustrom advises Suzuri to “Win the tournament with his own power”
…You mean the power he’s getting from you? Big guy?

Brustrom then inquires about Bashin Dan.

To which Suzuri summarises him in a single sentence, though given the intonation and the words used I’m pretty sure Suzuri said “He’s an idiot who has a red deck and uses nothing but Clash”
Seems Brustrom is somewhat interested in Dan specifically. Probably because the kid quite literally ruined the preparations for a Horizon Ladder, something the Otherworld King wants.

Seems Gaana’s aware of Dan because of Dan’s status in the Gunslinger. With this and Hyoudo’s comments in the last episode, it seems like Dan has a lot of upfront talent with clash which ultimately has no depth once he’s put into the heat of high level battles.

Dan ignores the recognition and requests Gaana give up on Magisa if he wins.

Gaana is apparently a man of some honour, and agrees.

Magisa has apparently already been prepared in a Wedding Dress for the purposes of the ceremony should Dan lose.

Naturally.

Apparently Zungurii’s been restrained against his will, he ate the chocolate while not being the intended suitor, so apparently the remedy for this is…

…To become a slave.
I’m sorry what fucking weird backwards country is this?
Zungurii was offered the chocolate first but because he was either not the target, or probably because he was not old enough to marry, or maybe even because he was male, he has to undergo slavery? To respect a custom?
I want to throw Rocchi into the ocean.

Gaana seems to be a respectable man, indicating that he’ll also release Zungurii if Dan’s victorious.

He however highlights that both Dan and Clackey must also become servants like Zungurii should Dan fail to achieve victory, in spite of having not eaten the Hocholate.

Either way, the battle’s underway and Dan gets to go first.

It appears Dan’s capable of winning fast and accumulating a lot of wins in the Gunslinger but doesn’t do this via a perfect record, which means that he has trouble when it comes to the brackets because he’s incredibly inconsistent at winning.

We seem to be at the stage of the anime where the turns start to go a bit faster.
So Dan drops Goradon and Ankillersaurus and then passes.

Gaana summons MachG and Machfly and also passes. No attacks have been waged.

Dan summons Sabecaulus, a nice Cost 4 to add some threats to the board.

With a Spirit advantage, Dan wages an attack with Ankillersaurus, at 2000 BP, Gaana could only get rid of it by sacrificing Machfly, who also sits at 2000 BP.
Dan would still have a Spirit advantage and the same number of blockers if Gaana blocked, and he’d simply diminish his own resources, so he takes a life, leaving Gaana with 4.

Magisa’s being a bit premature at trash talking Gaana here, he’s lost 1 life on turn 3, it’s really not that big of a game changer.

And apparently the guy’s written like a regular Dragon Ball Z character, he seems to be into that shit.
Though regarding his taste in partners, same.

Gaana’s turn, he summons the Cost 0 Beatbeetle, clocking in at 1000 BP

MachG is granted 2 Core to Level it up to Lv2, giving it a total BP of 3000, now this one can tie with Sabecaulus.

…Interesting? Gaana enters the attack step and attacks with Machfly.
Dan’s Sabecaulus has 3000 BP, it can be blocked and destroyed here.

Ah, this would be why, at full reductions making the card free, Gaana uses “God Speed” to make all his Cost 6 or higher Swift cards Cost 4.
By my calculation Gaana should have 2 core remaining in his reserve, giving him just enough for any card with at least 3 reductions.
This combo was used by Revolver earlier, and given that the series treats the card game incredibly accurate to reality…

That means that Gaana is also using it for The SavageKnight Hercules.
I’m surprised he didn’t attack with MachG and then do this though, Hercules refreshes all exhausted Swift Spirits, had he done so, MachG would have been refreshed.
Also, offhandedly mentioned but not actually shown, Dan takes a life from Machfly’s attack, leaving him with 4. That was a bit of a weird transition.

We apparently skip to Turn 6, I can only presume that Dan drew for turn and then did nothing with it. Gaana attacks with Hercules.

Dan takes a life, dropping him to 3 and Gaana passes.
What’s with this incredibly slow aggression all of a sudden? Dan taking a life from Machfly makes sense because Dan wants Core to summon his big spirits sooner, but Gaana attacking with it in the first place makes very little sense.
I suppose whether he attacked with MachG or Machfly didn’t actually matter because the result ended up the same whether MachG was refreshed or not. And Dan didn’t seem to do anything either on the followup that the extra MachG would have mattered for, but still.
I guess Gaana can’t really full attack for a win here, so attacking with a Spirit that he knows won’t crash into any of Dan’s seems fine. He can only make slow movements toward his win condition.

Dan seems to enjoy high-stakes, high skill games with many micro-decisions.
I also enjoy them, but I’m also incredibly impatient.

Mai’s… Inclusion at this specific juncture is incredibly strange, it seems like it’s only here to indicate that she’s even here. Anyway she seems to want to know something so she’s returned to act as a Lightbearer again, twit.

Galaxy comments that they’ve been diminishing each other’s lives 1 by 1 from Turn 5 and 6, and Ankillersaurus appears to be exhausted here, so it seems like Gaana took a life from the invisible turn 5 we never got to see.

Gaana and Dan exchange compliments, how nice.

And now Magisa’s getting flustered because 2 men are fighting over her.
…Magisa, you’re 4029 years old, Dan is fucking 12, get a grip.

For some reason the playback here cuts out very briefly so here’s a picture of Dan’s available core, in any case, Ankillersaurus and Sabecaulus were apparently levelled up on Turn 5, so they’re brought down to Level 1.

Dan then summons Siegwurm at Lv2 (6000 BP)

Apparently the Core used to raise Siegwurm’s Level transmits more power to Mother Core.

Which causes Kajitsu to freak the fuck out.
Hold on, Alexander had 10000 BP at Lv2 and has more power than Siegwurm in General, why didn’t you freak out over Alexander?!

“Go back to bed Kajitsu, you’re drunk”, Yuuki probably.

To which Viole Mai intrudes on them now, seems she was going to visit Yuuki the entire time.

Viole Mai goes straight for the jugular, asking Yuuki wtf he’s doing here.

To which Yuuki dodges the question by asking his own, particularly why Viole Mai hasn’t pissed off in spite of threatening to do so somewhere between 2 and 4 different times so far.
I’m too angry to remember.

Come on Mai, take from my example, if you’re going to write a blog at least be bloody honest when you’re actually working on it.

Yeah Mai’s fooling precisely ZERO people with that kind of response.

Talk about an Armor-Piercing Question

Back to the battle, Dan’s played a Siegwurm, so it’s aggression time.
Siegwurm attacks, thanks to Clash, Gaana must block it, Gaana blocks with Beatbeetle and it’s destroyed.

Dan attacks with Goradon, but its blocked by MachG, Goradon with only 1000 BP doesn’t even come close to MachG’s base 2000 BP. So Goradon is destroyed.
Dan’s going all out if he’s willing to sacrifice his own Spirits here.

Dan attacks with Ankillersaurus who is blocked by Machfly.

Thanks to Ankillersaurus’ effect, it gains 1000 BP because Siegwurm has the Clash ability.

As a result, Ankillersaurus has 1000 BP over Machfly and destroys it.

Dan ends his turn, leaving Sabecaulus as a blocker.
Er, let’s review the board state since it’s been moving around a lot and it turns out Gaana’s played an extra Spirit.
At the beginning of the Turn Gaana had Beatbeetle, MachG, a Machfly and The SavageKnight Hercules, who was exhausted.
Dan had Siegwurm, Goradon, Ankillersaurus and Sabecaulus.
Dan’s lost Goradon and Gaana’s lost Beatbeetle and Machfly. So while Dan only has 1 blocker remaining, he took out 2 spirits, Gaana will need 2 more spirits to add to his board in order to threaten Dan here.

As a side note there’s a board review right before Dan’s attack, and there’s an animation error here, because rather than Beatbeetle, there’s a second MachG.

Gaana compliments Dan’s move, promising to take Dan back to his Kingdom in order to be Gaana’s “Specialist Card Battler”
Hey at least if Dan loses he gets to do more of what he loves.

Gaana brings SavageKnight Hercules and MachG down to level one.
Let’s see, 2 Spirits, Turn 8, 4 core steps and 2 lives lost.
Gaana’s got about 10 core available, 8 are in his reserve. I don’t recall him getting any more core from anywhere.

Oh, that’s sudden.

Anyway, Gaana summons The Emperor Kaiseratlas, who by the way looks AMAZING in this new CGI.
Let’s have a look shall we?
Tribute: Cost 6 or more / Void
After paying for the summoning cost, you must send all cores from one of your Cost 6 or more Spirits to the Void.
Lv2 [When Attacks]
When only the opposing Spirit is destroyed via BP comparison, by sending a core from your Reserve to the Void, send two opposing Lives to their Reserve.
We’ve seen this beast before in Bashin Toppa but we’re in Gekiha Dan now, and it’s a cool card and screw you lot this is my blog!
Anyway, Kaiseratlas is a Cost 9 Tribute Spirit from the Mounted Warrior and Shellman families, requiring you send all the Core from a Cost 6 or higher spirit to the Void, it has low power but holds a Double Symbol, allowing it to take 2 lives with one attack, and finally, at Lv2 for the mediocre requirement of 4 core, Kaiseratlas wipes out 2 lives from the opponent whenever it defeats a Spirit via BP comparison as long as you send a core from your reserve to the void.
An incredibly expensive Card, which isn’t saying much as Green has plenty of Core boost, not that Gaana’s been using any. Additionally if you have nothing to contest it with, you’re almost always losing 2 lives, unless you’re in the situation Gaana’s in now, when he can’t get it to Lv2 OR offer a Core to start blasting lives. Because he spent 7 Core for that thing.
Kaiseratlas also has a pretty glaring weakness, that being that the opponent can pay core from their spirit to deplete it before Kaiseratlas defeats it, causing it’s attack AND it’s effect to miss entirely… Though Kaiseratlas was eventually re-released as a “Revival” card with a far more modern effect, that gave it an effect to prevent that precise interaction from occurring.

Dan’s quite surprised that Gaana’s strategy involved using an X-Rare just to tribute it for a stronger one. But to be fair the SavageKnight Hercules and God Speed enable one to produce a Cost 7 X-Rare for a very low cost incredibly early. And with the rushdown capabilities of the High Speed deck you can produce a very nasty strategy of smashing opposing lives early with Hercules, and then finishing them off with Kaiseratlas.

Also Hyoudo’s here, and is very happy to see Dan playing.

He wasn’t asking me, but I think it’s usage here was premature, Gaana’s got 3 lives and sacrificed 2 Blockers for a single one, even at Lv2 it won’t threaten any of Dan’s lives, and at Lv1, Siegwurm can defeat it at Lv3 on Dan’s turn.
This wasn’t a particularly clever play in any sense of the word.

Dan there’s no power here to raise, Gaana’s essentially sacrificed his X-Rare.

Magisa and Zungurii realise Gaana and Dan are having way too much fun and seem to have forgotten the stakes.

SAME.

Magisa and Zungurii treat this like a confirmation that Gaana no longer cares about them, but Rocchi says the stakes are a completely separate issue from the fact that Gaana’s enjoying the fight.

Rocchi then salts the wound by saying Magisa would be Gaana’s 15th wife.
Jesus christ man how much heat is this guy packing in those pants? Us Humans find it hard to divide time between 2 suitors, let alone 15, that’s why a good majority of us are bloody monogamous.

But one must obviously observe the implications of such a thing, if Polygamy is common, that means the Brides are not tied down by their marriages either and should be free to marry others, which essentially means that Marriages are completely meaningless when everyone in the country can marry each other.
This isn’t to take a shot at polyamorous people mind you, just that systems are ill-equipped to rely on “intent” to guarantee validity, until we can read minds there must be downsides or qualifications required to offset the benefits.

Dan raises Siegwurm to Lv3 (9000 BP), which triggers it’s passive Lv3 effect, during Dan’s attack step, his Awaken Spirits will gain Clash. Sabecaulus has Awaken at all levels and thus benefits.
Sabecaulus is then raised to Lv2 (4000 BP), and it’s own passive effect will trigger, making all Spirits with Clash gain 1000 BP.
This means with Siegwurm at Lv3 and Sabecaulus at Lv2, Dan has a 5000 BP Spirit, and a 10000 BP Spirit, both holding Clash.

Dan doesn’t… seem to acknowledge Sabecaulus’ BP raising effect here but I suppose it doesn’t matter, Siegwurm has a 3000 BP advantage over Kaiseratlas, so attacking now is… beneficial.

Interesting choice… Gaana should only have Kaiseratlas on his field. This seems pointless.

And Gaana blocks with MachG
I was initially very confused by this thinking Gaana needed to use MachG’s Core, but as it turns out I can’t count, Gaana paid 7 for Kaiseratlas and still had 1 core left in reserve. So he was fine.

During Flash timing of this black, Gaana uses “Nature Force”
Hoo boy, this card isn’t banned yet? Battle Spirits tends to respect Banlists when writing.
If none of you recall, Nature Force allows the player to move all the Core in their Trash to one of their Spirits, design-wise it was likely considered to be balanced because it can’t be used during a Main Step (Actual restriction on the card), but in practice, and alongside the Light Keyword, it can create incredibly nasty refresh loops.

Targeting Kaiseratlas, the 8 core in Gaana’s Trash is moved to it, raising it to Lv2.

However Gaana used up all his reserve core in summoning Kaiseratlas, so MachG was depleted for the cost, not that it’s a problem however, chump-blocking with a Spirit enabling you to use their Core for Magic is a lovely efficiency quirk unique to this game.

Now for more errors, Dan laments that Kaiseratlas being at equal BP means Siegwurm can’t attack as they’ll destroy each other, and he isn’t willing to sacrifice Siegwurm to defeat Kaiseratlas, besides, Gaana might have a BP Booster in his hand.
Except for the fact that Sabecaulus is boosting Siegwurm’s BP and therefore this shouldn’t be an issue. Granted most battle tricks can raise up to 3000 BP, so realistically this is a concern a player might have if the BP values are too close.

So while from the outlook this looks like an error, anyone anticipating a battle boost magic will probably come to Dan’s conclusion anyway, it’s more reasonable than it seems even though Dan is wrong about their equivalent BP.

Gaana summons BlackMonoqueiroz… Don’t think we’ve seen this card in a while.
Lv1-Lv2 [When Summoned]
During this turn, every “Shellman”/”Shell Insect” family Spirit you control gains +3000 BP.
Well that’s concerning, BlackMonoqueiroz will boost all Shellman or Shell Insect Spirits by 3000 BP for the turn it’s summoned.
Meaning Kaiseratlas will have 12000 BP this turn.

Kaiseratlas attacks.

Dan laments over his options, but ultimately chooses to block with Siegwurm.
He had Sabecaulus to offer up, I’m a little surprised he didn’t do that

Gaana’s a bit taken aback by this, as Kaiseratlas will shave 2 lives from Dan anyway, so what’s the point in blocking with a weaker spirit?

Dan enters flash timing and activates Excavation.
Return three “Terra Dragon” family Spirit cards from your Trash to the Hand.
Flash
During this turn, give a Spirit +3000 BP.
This inclusion’s a bit odd in Dan’s deck, but anyway this Cost 4 magic has a dual-use, during the Main Step it can return 3 Terra Dragon Spirits from the Trash to the Hand, and when used as a Flash (which can also, coincidentally, be during the Main Step), a Spirit gains 3000 BP.

Siegwurm is selected, raising it’s BP to 12000, making it equal to Kaiseratlas.
Kaiseratlas needs to be on the field in order to use it’s effect to slash lives.

It certainly wasn’t, but a more calculating player would have seen that BlackMonoqueiroz as a confirmation that Gaana didn’t have any Battle tricks, as it was locked to a spirit, it would be relatively safe to attempt this now. It doesn’t matter if one loses a big fighter if it takes out an even bigger one.

Seems like Dan was right to wait anyhow.

As had he attacked with Sabecaulus’ boost earlier, he would have fallen victim to this.
Gaana uses Savage Power.
During this turn, give a Spirit +2000 BP for each symbol it has.
A simple BS06 Green Magic designed to support Spirits with Multiple symbols, it grants a Spirit 2000 BP for every symbol it has.
Kaiseratlas has 2, meaning it’ll clock-out at 16000 BP.

Siegwurm is unfortunately, defeated.

Gaana activates Kaiseratlas’ Lv2 effect, taking 2 lives from Dan, leaving him with just a measly 1.
However, Gaana only has BlackMonoqueiroz on his board, and Dan still has Sabecaulus refreshed, he can’t win, so he ends his turn.

Siegwurm’s destroyed, Dan’s on a single life, and his gamble to take out the incredibly lethal Kaiseratlas went up in smoke.
Magisa and Zungurii are naturally, a little bit despaired over their potential new living situation.

Clackey berates them for giving up on Dan already.

Gaana tells Dan the battle’s over, and Dan protests that this is a “Clash until the end”

Gaana’s confidence is likely due to the fact that he’s fully aware of the Clash King’s reputation and watched him carefully during the Gunslinger, meaning he’s also aware that Dan’s strongest spirit is Siegwurm.
Having defeated it, Gaana is likely feeling as if there are no more threats to his win condition.

It’s Dan’s turn and he pulls a hell of a draw.

Dan summons The StarEmperorDragon Meteorwurm at Lv3

Dan’s finally busted out his… 2nd X-Rare actually, as Siegfried was his first.
1st original X-rare I suppose, and in Dan fashion, he introduces himself to the new spirit.
And I’ll introduce you to the REVIEW!
Lv1-Lv2-Lv3 Clash [When Attacks]
The opponent must block if possible.
Lv2-Lv3 [Your Attack Step]
Give all your “Soldier” family Spirits: Clash.
Lv3 [Your Attack Step]
When your Spirit with Clash attacks, you can target and attack an opposing Spirit.
A Cost 7 Red Spirit, from BS07, hailing from the Astral Dragon and Soldier Families.
At all Levels it has Clash, much like it’s predecessor Siegwurm.
At Levels 2 and upward, all “Soldier” spirits, of which there aren’t particularly many, gain Clash, this operates similarly to Siegwurm’s Level 3 effect for Awaken Spirits.
And finally, the important effect, at Level 3, which requires a whopping 6 core to maintain but comes in at 11000 BP, allows any Clash spirits to target attack, this is pretty big as one of the main issues of Clash is that while you can force the opponent to block, you don’t get to select what they give up, which can cause you issues.
This card rectifies those issues, it also means that Gaana can’t get around Clash by virtue of Kaiseratlas being exhausted OR BlackMonoqueiroz being an available blocker.

Dan immediately moves to battle, attacking with Meteorwurm.
And of course only now Galaxy acknowledges Sabecaulus’ boost, Meteorwurm’s at the correct value of 12000 BP.

Gaana attempts to block, believing he must, with BlackMonoqueiroz, but Dan explains that he’s going to go for Kaiseratlas, when Gaana protests that Kaiseratlas cannot block, Dan explains that he’s target attacking it.

The Emperor Kaiseratlas is defeated.

As if the imagery wasn’t sufficient to unsubtly indicate that Magisa is in love with Julian, think of the situation:
Dan’s first battle, in which he declared would be Meteorwurm’s first, is against a man trying to marry Magisa, and his key spirit is defeated by the Spirit that was initially Julian’s partner.
The “Battle for Magisa” was certainly lost by Dan when Siegwurm was defeated by Kaiseratlas, but Dan is too young to be interested in Magisa anyway, it’s Julian’s card that ultimately wins the challenge.
It’s a reach sure but Magisa’s in a wedding dress affectionately calling out to Julian to let him know that his card is fighting.
It’s incredibly romantic in spite of the fact that one of the characters in question isn’t even here.

The rest of the battle doesn’t appear to be shown, instead Dan is declared the winner immediately after Meteorwurm defeats Kaiseratlas, it’s likely Gaana conceded the match once his Key Spirit was defeated, something that occurs more often than I’d like.

Hyoudo’s thoughts and actions are betraying his words, he calls Dan “decent” but his Ice Cream has melted because of how wrapped up he was in Dan’s battle.

Gaana reflects on his battle with Dan.

Oh, we’re actually flashing back to the results of the battle, let’s go!

Gaana actually has an empty hand here, so he was hoping to draw an out, granted he was firing Flash after flash and ended up exhausting his options. It’s likely the card he drew was a Magic, or perhaps a 2nd Kaiseratlas, which he wouldn’t have been able to summon.

What the hell is this, 2 truths and a lie?
Yes, Gaana played quite a few Spirits during that match, but roughly the same amount as Dan did, so clearly not a property of his deck being unique in any regard.
He also didn’t gather any core whatsoever across that match, not a single core boost effect was used, his only core gain was his life.
But ultimately his last statement is true, a Deck that aims to play as many cards as possible as soon as possible is a deck with low inevitability because their gameplan revolves around winning before the opponent can address them. As such, his inability to win soon enough cost him.
To his credit it’s not a bad strategy, High Speed low to the ground spirits, using God Speed to summon Hercules cheaply, making an excellent tribute for Kaiseratlas later to clean up, it’s an incredibly good gameplan, you just need to be more aggressive early.
Also some Cost 4 Double Draws wouldn’t hurt you, colour mixing is useful.

It seemed on the 13th Turn, Dan summoned a Rokceratops, defeated BlackMonoqueiroz with Meteorwurm, and then full attacked Gaana with Sabecaulus, Ankillersaurus and Rockeratops for his last 3 lives.
Well, I guess we covered that little hole in the story, very pleased with this.

Gaana has some reflecting to do it seems, he selected a deck and strategy that is, ultimately, quite sound, but was defeated anyway due to a lack of options later in the game, he has much to think about how he wants to battle from now on.

Dan, being the good sportsman he is, comes in to let Gaana know that the battle was fun, which to be fair it was.

Magisa berates Dan about “forgetting” about her and Zungurii, which Dan admits to doing but it’s really not a problem here.

Also is it just me or is this section of the episode animated a bit differently than usual? Magisa’s face looks really odd here, Its meant to be a goofy scene so I don’t mind it too much as Magisa does indeed look goofy, the change is just a little bit jarring for me.

Something to look forward to for next episode is Clackey Ray’s battle it seems. Clackey’s style of play is very interesting because of how Combo oriented it is, and Combos as we all know, are probably the most fun.

Other than that, that’s the Episode!
No points for guessing what the Card of the day is!
Cuz it’s Meteorwurm!
I don’t have much to say that I haven’t already said, the card is rather average for it’s time honestly, I don’t particularly recall any particular usages of the card in any of the events from memory, the Battle Spirits website has scrubbed all event records from before 2015 (which is around Burning Soul) era, and the Wayback Machine no longer holds those records (likely due to lack of access), so I can only cite my own memory for usages of the card.
Its issues stem from it’s incredibly high cost, you must pay a Minimum of 4 Cost in order to wield it, and then to make it anything more than just “Siegwurm but bigger” you need to give it a total of 6 core, which is an incredibly high level requirement.
The card simply isn’t good on it’s own that’s for sure, and it’s “Soldier” support effect isn’t too useful either, as there aren’t very many “Soldier” cards…
…Sort of.
Lv1-Lv2-Lv3 [When Attacks]
For each “Soldier” family Spirit you control, this Spirit gains +1000 BP.
LV2-Lv3 [Your Attack Step]
Give all “Terra Dragon” family Spirits you control the “Soldier” family.
A card released in the same set, and potentially a hint for any keen-eyed players noticing Dan’s use of “Excavation”, may be led towards this card. Bragasaur’s Lv2 ability can turn all of your Terra Dragons into Soldiers, which, combined with Meteorwurm’s Clash spreading ability, can enable you to effectively grant all of your Terra Dragons the Clash ability.
Lv1-Lv2-Lv3
Neither player’s Life can be reduced by the attacks of Cost 2 or less Spirits.
Lv2-Lv3
Destroy an opposing 2000 BP or less Spirit.
To assist with lasting long enough to get the requisite core, The HalberdBraver Arc has a powerful effect that prevents weenie rushes, and can even destroy Small spirits, making it easier to survive long enough to achieve the board state you’re aiming for…
I suppose at this point I might as well post a decklist.
Hyperlinked to Decklist, but posting an image here for clarity:

All cards can be found by their setcodes which are clearly displayed, so I won’t be posting a list of names, but in essence, I’ve made an incredibly rudimentary Clash Build designed to give the Terra Dragon baseline Clash via Bragasaur and Meteorwurm’s synergies.
This almost certainly isn’t good but it’s the type of thing I tend to look for when trying to build around a card, looking for inherent synergies.
That being said, while synergies are a fun way to play, they aren’t the only way to play, this deck crumples if it cannot produce Bragasaur for any reason. Simply using a Clash oriented build also works fine, as Meteorwurm’s final effect is a benefit to any Clash spirit, this is me just building around it’s 2nd effect.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed me rambling on about 62 set-old card (as of time of writing), see you in the next one!
